FAUInsights lectures on Solar technology started on May 8th with opening topic “A Glimpse into the Future – What Solar Technologies Will We Have in 20 Years?”. The event was introduced by Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger, the President of FAU, who provided welcoming remarks.

Prof. Dr. Christoph Brabec delved into the future visions of photovoltaic (PV) technologies, discussing the latest trends in emerging photovoltaics. He emphasized the importance of accelerating research to push the boundaries of current technology and explored the possibilities of printing PV technologies.

Dr. Markus Fischer of Qcells followed with an insightful presentation on the significant advancements in Silicon Photovoltaic technology, evolving from a gigawatt-scale to a terawatt-scale industry over the past two decades. He explored the prospects of producing and installing one TW of Silicon modules each year in the near future. With energy production costs dropping below 2 cents/kWh in sun-rich areas, Photovoltaics remains the most cost-effective technology for power generation.

The event was moderated by Markus Rützel, Managing Director of the Energy Campus Nürnberg.
