Congratulations to Bernd with passing his PhD examination with very good grades! His thesis shows the development of advanced high throughput luminescence imaging techniques for the monitoring of large-scale photovoltaic installations to detect defects and prevent performance degradation over time. The work aims to increase the throughput of outdoor luminescence measurements while maintaining reliable defect detection rates, using low-weight and high-speed cameras, contactless luminescence imaging, and deep learning algorithms. It is also discusses the development of photoluminescence setups for large-area PV modules and the detection of various defects, such as cell cracks, potential induced degradation, and soiling. The overall goal is to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of PV module maintenance through advanced luminescence imaging techniques. Bernd will continue to work in HI ERN.
